In July 2019, Dr. Gianfranco Piras was invited to teach a course in Manilla at the De La Salle University School of Economics. The Course was titled, "Continuing Professional Education on Data Analytics and Spatial Econometrics," and focused on helping the participants acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct analysis of spatial data. The course covered data mapping and spatial econometric modelling, and then following each lecture, Piras led laboratory sessions on the application of the models using R, Stata, and GeoData software. Earlier in June, Dr. Piras also taught a similar course at West Virginia University’s Regional Research Institute. This course covered both basic and advanced concepts ranging from the different typologies of spatial data, through the definition of connectivity in space, to a comprehensive treatment of various spatial econometric models, both cross-sectional as well as panel.
